With the advent of computers, DVD, and the advancements made in the technical world in general, we tend to wonder if in fact literature and reading for pure pleasure is becoming a thing of the past. When last did you curl up with a good book and immerse yourself in another world? Do you find yourself making the excuse that you simply do not have time, furthermore do you experience the idea as pure indulgent luxury? In our fast pace lives, adults and children ARE reading less and less for the purposes of pleasure and relaxation. The genre of books which have become more in demand appear to be books on knowledge, training and how to acquire different skills. Nothing wrong with this, however we are forgetting the value of reading literature. So lets think about this ...
Fiction has the ability to change lives. Let us take Charles Dickens for example. As a young child he was so inspired by his readings of fairy tales and adventures that he became himself a prolific writer.Tales of chivalry inspired many Medieval knights.
Reading can enhance our spiritual growth, spark our imagination and develop our creative abilities. Fiction can be the instigator of adventure and change. Some novels represent something close to enduring human value: take the time to read Emily Bronte's
Wuthering Heights (Signet Classics)
, Balzac's
Lost Illusions (Modern Library Classics)
and Toni Morrison's
Beloved
. READ, READ AND READ MORE...
When I last counted, I have a collection of 535 novels in my home. How many do you have?

I think there'll always be a market for books. It will never go obsolete.

The power of the written word will never die. Books capture the imagination in ways movies never can. When you read a book, you get involved with the characters, you are swept away from where ever you are and taken to the land of the book. Whether its some fantasy world, or New York City, if you read it then you are there.

I also think that books will be around for a long time to come. Good books are much better than what's on tv and at the movies. I read a lot of books online, but I also like traditional books, which offer the advantage that they don't use electricity.
